Men’s designer sweatshirts
The history of the sweatshirt
One of the most appreciated clothing by those who like to wear casually and informally is the sweatshirt, for sure, which has a recent but very fascinating story. The famous brand Russel Europe sewed these garments for the first time in the 20s. The purpose was to complete the uniforms for athletes with comfy, warm but also suitable items for their activities. Only a few decades later, the brand Champion considered the sweatshirt a garment for workers that needed to wear warm, practical and not bulky items.
For this, it was thought about work clothing that fit different uses by adding the hood. Between the 60s and 70s, the years of students’ protests, sweatshirts began to be worn also during demonstrations: the hood allowed them to hide their faces. It was at that time that the sweatshirt satisfied the tastes and preferences not just of workers and athletes but also of younger boys. So, many brands introduced sweatshirts in their collections. Artists, musicians and skaters quickly began to wear sweatshirts, an item that until then had been designed to be used by workers and athletes. So, that comfy and unconventional garment embellished the most sought-after and casual looks.
Sweatshirt nowadays
In fifty years, sweatshirts filled shops and many guys’ wardrobes, and they have never stopped to be present in the uniforms of workers, athletes, artists and, more recently, rappers. Nowadays, only a few fashion houses are having them in their collections. Over the last decade, many among them have given space to sweatshirts, using haute couture fabrics and yarns to enhance their allure with a more elegant and sophisticated touch. Generally speaking, sweatshirts are appreciated by athletes, workers and guys who like to wear simple and casual outfits. For example, let’s think about the founder of Facebook, the American businessman Mark Zuckerberg, that made this clothing a daily garment. Between the late 90s and the early 2000s, many brands were born to create casual clothing, so the sweatshirt has become an essential item of their collections. And that’s not all: especially in recent years, also most luxury fashion brands have begun to pay more attention to sweatshirts. Thanks to the trend of the maxi logos, the sweatshirt has become one of the most-wanted garments even for luxury brands all over the world, such as Off-White™, Fear of God and Gucci. Despite this, the lines of the sweatshirt are still the same because the designers decided not to revolutionize the shapes but embellish them with prints, inserts, embroideries and zips. A basic garment has become a glamorous and precious item that must be included in the everyday wardrobe, and more.
Off-White™
Off-White™ has included in its men’s collection many sweatshirts with different cuts, colors, materials and patterns. For a more casual and sophisticated outfit, the fashion house proposes a capless white sweatshirt of the Incompiuto collection, with elastic waistbands on the wrists, enriched by drawings and red writings on the front and the back. The same model is also available in the black sweatshirt Acrylic Arrows which has a particular decoration made with yellow woven arrows in contrast with the dark fabric. A sportier garment is for sure a sweatshirt with a purple hood. The thick fabric with bold tones seems a superposition of a t-shirt and a sweatshirt. This movement of the fabric, the fuchsia decorations on the sleeves and the back and the front print make this clothing a trendy and extravagant look.
Fear of God
The brand Fear of God has a wide catalogue of sweatshirts. Among the most iconic items we can find the round-necked sweatshirt in burgundy nylon and also the sweatshirt in grey nylon. This original and glamorous garment is produced with synthetic and transparent fabric that, when worn, shows a light shade. For the ones who love a more sophisticated look, Fear of God produces an oversized model named black crew-necked sweatshirt, enriched by frontal buttons and clean, simple and soft lines. This fabric is thinner than the classic sweatshirt, creating a soft and wide movement. The sweatshirt black FG and pink FG is sporty clothing with a drawstring that allows to tighten and widen the neck width. The plush fabric is enriched by the writing FG in black or white.
