Fashion 2020: Saint Laurent’s homage to monsieur Yves

Fashion 2020: Saint Laurent’s homage to monsieur Yves

The Saint Laurent spring summer runway 2020 retraced the creativity of the French designer Yves

Yves Saint Laurent was the designer that knew how interpret a complex spirit best and sometimes contradictory of the 20th Century. The last runway show of this well-known designer was in Paris in 2002, but his successors continue to pay homage to the timeless and uncompromising elegance that has defined the success of the fashion house.

Sensuality and femininity go hand in hand in Yves Saint Laurent fashion, while his passions, loves and travels have given a distinctive trait to every single collection. He is the Saharan adapted for everyday life, the trouser suit for the wedding (the first was made famous at Bianca Jagger's wedding), the clothes inspired by art (the Mondrian dress) and the opulence of the Russian costume revisited in a glamorous way. The objective has always been that of giving new life to the feminine wardrobe. Never predictable or boring, always original and authentic.

His creative journey goes hand in hand with fashion of the 20th Century, often changing the stylistic codes of feminine dressing. Monsieur Yves is a true forge of creativity: he dared, and his clients welcomed his creations. In 1967 a revolutionary look was presented: a female model wearing a man's smoking suit. The image is strong and powerful, just think of the historical period in which this look was proposed: the women's youth movement was in turmoil, shouting in public to obtain equality. Only a year later feminists burnt their bras and Yves Saint Laurent created his nude look: a very lightweight silk blouse worn without a bra.

Anthony Vaccarello, the current creative director at Saint Laurent, retraces the powerful creativity of Yves, in his spring summer 2020 collection, playing with shapes, fabrics and proportions. The runway is a complex variation on the iconic looks of the fashion house, all in a total black monochrome. To close the fashion parade, the beautiful Naomi Campbell was wearing a sequined tuxedo without any top.
