Women’s designer jackets
Jackets: the history
Usually, jackets are related to the men’s wardrobe, but many don’t know that this item is part of the female wear since the eighteenth century. Among the most popular models there were the carco, the spencer and the bolero. From wider and masculine lines, jackets started to become more and more shaped, thought for a thinner and female body.Women started to link and combine this item with skirts, this is how towards the end of the nineteenth century the suit trend was born. This fashion trend spread during the twentieth century when women started to take part of socially relevant activities. Lately, during the 30’s and 40’s, jackets got thinner around the waist keeping shoulders larger and bulkier. Then, jackets were introduced by the designer Christian Dior in its runways for the spring/summer 1947 collection. Years after, thanks to the Chanel’s renowned suit realized by the stylist in 1954, this piece became part of all women’s most popular fashion houses collections.
Jackets today
As already said, jackets have joined female wardrobes just in the years when women took part in relevant roles out of the familiar context. Therefore, many lead this item back to formal outfits for businesswomen. However, especially in the last years became more and more appreciated and used by those who love to wear casual but refined outfits. In the 70’s, Giorgio Armani deconstructed the jacket by making it fluid and soft therefore suitable for different contexts. In fact, modifying the lines and making the fit softer gave this garment a different allure compared to previous runways. Starting from these models, several designers have also developed and created coats and outwear inspired by the classic and timeless style of the first jackets. The double-breasted closure and structured shoulders are in fact characteristics often found also in winter collections and used for the creation of overcoats, leather bikers and casual jackets.Today, this garment is extremely widespread and used in very different looks. Many fashion experts define the jacket as one of the essential elements in the female wardrobe. A passepartout suitable for any occasion of use, event or season. Each woman can choose the model, fantasy, texture, material and lines that best match her taste and physicality to create an elegant and sophisticated look but also a more casual, sporty and chic outfit. Moreover, if in the past the jacket was purely associated with day events, now women love to show off this garment also on evenings and night occasions with a softer cut for the late afternoon and with a tuxedo or tight model for the evening, combining it with casual or elegant trousers, shorts or with a miniskirt.Among the most popular fashion houses that produce women’s designer jackets, it is possible to count: Off-White™, Prada and Miu Miu.
