The elegance of a coat but the practicality of technical fabrics: the trench coat is the mid-season outerwear that is confirmed as the protagonist also in spring 2021. Classic khaki color or interpreted according to contemporary trends, its history has its roots in the military world, when the first model was cut in the Myfair tailor's shop. The material chosen was a 'gabardine', the first waterproof weft born at the end of the 19th century but to make that garment famous, after being used in the trenches of the First World War - hence the name 'trench' - is the film Casablanca, when a mysterious and charming Humphrey Bogart flaunts it with a Borsalino hat.
In the spring summer 2021 collections, designers have decided to re-propose the more traditional models: a not too tight fit, midi or long hem and a narrow belt at the waist. The color palette is rather neutral and is declined between intense blue, charcoal black and shades of sand. The only contemporary reinterpretations are made by Burberry which, to break the monotony, proposes inserts in leather and denim without ever betraying the pure line.
This defined style however, is in contrast with what the trench coat hides, which means: sports suits, bralettes, 'relaxed' suits and even sequin dresses are worn under the volume of waterproof canvas. Finally, the matching accessories: fluo brushstrokes illuminate this season's trench coats like pop signs, outfits poised between minimalism and the desire of daring.
