Jeans: the history
Wrongly, we often think that jeans have American origins. However, not everyone knows that this material was invented in Italy. In fact, it would seem that during the XVI century, in the city of Genoa, there were already references to jeans. Specifically, papers referred to a particular cloth in a blue color with which the sails of ships were built. For this reason, it seems that the name jeans derived from the phrase blue de Genes, referring to the blue of Genoa.
Only thanks to mass migration of the Italian and European population towards America, which took place in the 19th century, the blue jeans arrived on the continent. In 1873 Levi Strauss opened his first store selling items for gold researchers: here the first pair of jeans in history was born. This item would become the status symbol and would be worn by cowboys, military men and following that become an on-trend item with an entrance into Hollywood. University students started wearing jeans daily and big design houses were using the fabric to make the iconic denim jacket and much more. And today there are hundreds and hundreds of different types of models.
Jeans today
