Raf Simons to be Co-Creative Director at Prada

Raf Simons to be Co-Creative Director at Prada

Raf Simons to work side by side with Miuccia Prada:rnthe first collection to derive from this creative dialogue will be the SpringrnSummer 2021 womenswear show

The news arrived at the end of Milan Fashion Week February 2020, with a closed door press conference that confirmed some of the industry rumors that had already been circulating for quite a few months: Raf Simons will become part of the Prada brand as a co-creative director. A “challenge” that will see the two personalities discuss the language of fashion as early as the next collection, the Spring Summer 2021 runway show. 'The synergy' — it reads in the press release — 'is a reaction to the era in which we live, an epoch of fresh possibilities, permitting a different point of view and approach to established methodologies'.

Releasing the news Patrizio Bertelli, appointed administrator of the group and husband to Miuccia Prada, stated 'We have known Raf Simons since 2005: when I hired him as creative director for Jil Sander who was then under our name. It is the first time in the story of fashion that two expert designers will work together. Here, again, the Prada Group have proven to be at the forefront of change. In this case, a strong challenge to the idea of singularity of creative authorship. This will further develop Prada school of style'. A choice that is in the DNA of the Milanese brand, loyal to the idea of innovation: the desire to broaden one’s horizons, to experiment, to take every opportunity to look to the future. The values and ethos characterized by the Prada brand remain unchanged: in fact, this radical creative dialogue reiterates the philosophy both of Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons.

'A real challenge', according to Miuccia Prada who unites two strong and distinct personalities. 'I, instead, recognize the differences and want to question them, that’s why I am here' – declared the Belgian designer and first creative director at Calvin Klein, adding – 'I believe in the collaborations, reinforcing the results. Almost like party politicians, a good political party is also such for collaboration'.
