How to dress in Dandy Style with a contemporary twist

How to dress in Dandy Style with a contemporary twist

Silk scarves and 1940s trousers, dandy style for men is a contemporary trend set to explode in 2025, thanks in part to the influence of music.

The beating heart of 2025’s fashion lies in dandy style, which has also shaped women’s looks on Saint Laurent’s runways. But this is merely a glamorous footnote to what’s happening in men’s wardrobes. After two centuries, the refined elegance of dandy fashion – rooted in precise cuts and high-quality fabrics – is making a comeback. This movement began in the 19th century, led by the Englishman Lord George Bryan Brummell, known as “Beau Brummell,” widely regarded as the first true dandy and gentleman in history. While everyone else wore pastel shades, ruffles, and frills as was fashionable in the French court, Brummell stood out with his use of navy blue and beige, featuring sleek tailoring that accentuated the male figure. Though little of that exact image remains today, the intellectual concept behind it is trending once again in men’s fashion, rekindling the pleasure of embracing dandy attire.

Less flamboyant than Oscar Wilde and less eccentric than Truman Capote, the dandy style of 2025 is far removed from kitsch or over-the-top originality. Instead, it’s a sophisticated aesthetic that balances bold details with a modern color palette while nodding to the past. This trend even dips into the stereotype of the “Latin lover,” complete with tailored pinstripe suits, worn without a shirt underneath to showcase the physique. This iteration of dandy fashion brings to mind a refined and elegant Sicilian style, where impeccable tailoring takes center stage, enriched with a contemporary flair.

One of the driving forces behind this stylish revival is Damiano David, whose upcoming solo album unveils a fresh, distinctly Italian image. He pairs high-waisted trousers with pronounced pleats and double-breasted, structured jackets – a look reminiscent of 1940s fashion. His footwear features lace-up brogues, also offered in two-tone versions. Instead of belts, suspenders are worn over an impeccable tank top – far from a laborer’s undershirt. And then there’s the scarf, draped casually around the neck and left loose, as only a true dandy would wear it.
