Mom & Child Fashion: Soesja Leugs and little Jonah’s story, a journey through style, self-love, and freedom
Matching looks, world travels, and a lesson in style passed from mother to son. Influencer Soesja Leugs shows us how to be a mom who’s both practical and chic (even in mini-size).
rnIn a time when motherhood is finally breaking free from stereotypes and clichés, there are women who turn it into an act of love — for themselves, for their bodies, for the changing pace of life. Soesja Leugs, a Dutch influencer known for her mindful lifestyle and inner wellness, is one of them. At just 33, she’s a single mom to five-year-old Jonah — simply Jojo if you ask his mom — a boy full of energy and imagination. Together, they travel, dress up, reinvent themselves. Their everyday life — built on nature, movement, and carefully chosen clothes — is a declaration of independence and authenticity.
“As the mom of a little boy, practicality has become non-negotiable in my wardrobe,” Soesja shares. “We run, we climb, we move all day — so sporty-chic is my go-to when I’m ‘on duty.’”
But it’s not all about functionality. There’s room for shared elegance, playful moments, and small mother-son rituals. “It’s just the two of us at home. When we go out on one of our little ‘dates,’ I love putting on a dress. He always compliments me, so my advice is: don’t give up on special pieces.”
Jojo’s wardrobe, on the other hand, speaks a language of color, freedom, and comfort. “He needs to feel free to explore his physical strength. Climbing a tree requires space and flexibility — that’s the priority. But he’s also got his own voice: he loves colors, prints, and anything blue. I listen to him carefully, because I believe style is a creative way to explore your identity.”
The first spark of style? Christmas. “I gave him a three-piece brown pinstripe suit and the character that came out was surprising. He turned into a mini James Dean — toothpick included! It felt like a glimpse into his future.”
Soesja’s relationship with fashion has radically shifted since becoming a mother. It all starts with the skin. “When I was pregnant, I only wanted high-quality materials. That choice stuck with me, and I’m passing it on to my son. I believe it’s better for us and for the planet.”
Through clothing, Soesja hopes to pass on a key value to Jojo: the freedom to be himself. “I hope he’ll explore his style without constraints and use it as a tool for self-expression. At the same time, he taught me how to have fun with fashion again. I’ve always loved playing with clothes — and now, that sense of playfulness is fully back in my wardrobe.”
A style that evolves, like the seasons. “As a single mom, I see two sides of myself — one that’s practical, effortless, a little masculine, and one that’s deeply feminine and sunny. In fall and winter, I gravitate toward wide trousers and tailored blazers. Spring and summer, instead, are all about bare skin, lightweight fabrics, and color.”
Her bond with her mother Linda played a fundamental role in her growth. Now, that thread carries on into a new generation — through memories and fresh explorations. Soesja sees travel as a powerful stimulus: with Jojo, she’s travelled the world, and every journey has become a learning experience — for both of them.
And if she could pick one SS25 piece to twin in with her son?
“The Chloé fringe jacket! We’d wear it together without hesitation. Maybe his in blue — his favorite color — and mine in cherry red.”
Her 3 SS25 must-haves to wear on repeat?
– “The Balenciaga City Bag — an everyday bag I’d carry until the last stitch comes undone.”
– “Agolde jeans — the perfect example of an essential, high-quality piece I can style with anything.”
– “Burgundy Gucci sunglasses — to feel like the main character in any season.”
And today, your idea of beauty has changed?
“Before motherhood, beauty was surface-level. Becoming a mother (alone) awakened such a deep inner strength and self-awareness that now I see how much radiates from within.”
As with every photo she posts on Instagram, her final message isn’t just about style — it’s about intention, presence, and love:
“You can wear the most beautiful clothes in the world, but nothing is as magnetic as authenticity and self-love.”
