Barbiecore, the Spring Summer 2023 trend is much more than pink
Here is how and when the Barbiecore trend is born, protagonist of the Spring Summer 2023 season
Everyone talks about Barbiecore. Everybody wears Barbiecore. But what is it? This spring summer 2023 trend is going to be the protagonist next year, but few know that it has its roots in 2022. If many of you have already replaced the pink in its brightest colors thanks to the energetic boost of green and a neon color palette, two facts have brought attention to pink. The first one is about the PP Pink show by Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino of last summer that saw the dominance of fuchsia (a particular nuance born from the collaboration with Pantone, temporarily abandoning the iconic red); the second event was the announcement of the Barbie movie with Margot Robbie playing the role of the most famous doll in the world. A chain of facts (for some it is not a matter of coincidence) that has allowed us to bring attention to pink, one of the most beloved colors of all time.
If in the last decade it has been linked to the Millennials generation and the gender fluid movement, returning to a neutral use of the same color, now it becomes the flag of a female movement that does not give up on character, power and even its most feminine side. In short, it does not accept compromises. And here the most decisive shade of pink is back. Even Barbie will look different to us and not just because of one of the most quoted international Hollywood stars involved on the big screen. It took very little to record a viral phenomenon, the Barbiecore trend, which broke out on TikTok and then on Instagram, with a series of looks that did not necessarily emulate the doll note but paid tribute thanks to the use of color in a total way.
This involved women as well as men. An example? Harry Styles when he chose a Gucci outfit - furry coat, metallic trousers, and waistcoat - strictly pink. International stars such as Sebastian Stan (Pam & Tommy) and Charles Melton (Riverdale) follow. Even Brad Pitt dared with the Barbiecore, thus also revolutionizing his male wardrobe. Like it or not, the trend has already marked the way to success. Now we just have to learn how to wear it.
