Balenciaga for Women
The story of the fashion company
The fashion house Balenciaga is located in Paris but was founded in Spain in 1917 by the designer himself, Cristóbal Balenciaga: the “maestro of us all” as his colleague Christian Dior called him. Thanks to his revolutionary ideas in the world of fashion with feminine and ultra-modern looks, Balenciaga was an instant success and soon famous all over the world. With his outfits which would later become iconic, Balenciaga redesigned the female silhouette: high-waisted dresses, puffed skirts, kimono-style coats. After the death of the designer in 1972, a number of different people took over creative direction of the brand, helping Balenciaga become one of the most celebrity-popular haute couture brands in the world. Since 2001, Balenciaga has been owned by Kering, and in those years it was managed by Nicolas Ghesquière who continued the work begun by Balenciaga. His creations were in fact loved and often worn by pop star Madonna and by Vogue director Anna Wintour. Among the stars who have worn creations from Balenciaga we can mention Nicole Kidman, who chose the maison for her wedding dress to Keith Urban and Kylie Minogue who wore Balenciaga during one of her tours. In 2012, Alexander Wang took over as creative director, with his first collection for the brand being presented at Paris Fashion Week in February 2013. The current creative director is Demna Gvasalia, who relaunched the Maison Balenciaga haute couture in 2020.
Sweaters and trousers for women
In the new Balenciaga collection for women, draped designs reign supreme. Palazzo pants, oversize fleeces and jumpers, for a woman who wants practical but fashionable clothing. Neon colours and prints catch the eye, as does the on-trend camouflage pattern.
T-shirts and polo shirts for women
These are comfortable and highly popular, perfect to pair up with any look. Balenciaga t-shirts, with their pop art prints and cheerful colours, are a real must-have, to be worn at any time of year. They can give a new look to a basic outfit, matched with joggers or jeans. Alternatively, they can simplify or downplay outfits that are ultra-elegant: paired with palazzo pants and a blazer for a casual-chic look that never gets old. Or, for a dive into the 80s, they’re perfect with a miniskirt and towering heels.
Women’s jackets
One of the best-loved jackets by Balenciaga is the double-breasted blazer Hourglass. With its classic and ultra-feminine cut, it immediately enhances the waistline: an outfit that every true fashion-addict should have in her wardrobe. Another famous Balenciaga piece is the egg-shaped coat; with its soft drape and dropped shoulders, this is a timeless item that never goes out of fashion.
Women’s Sneakers
The Speed sneakers and Triple S sneakers are two iconic models, well-known and popular all over the world. Their shapes revolutionised the world of sneakers, becoming the true protagonist of a total look and making even the most basic outfit super-cool. With these models, Balenciaga turns the tables and allows sneakers to be worn with an elegant outfit or even a suit.
Belts and accessories for women
In 2001, the creative director of Balenciaga at that time, Nicolas Ghesquière, launched his City Bag. This would become the iconic bag par excellence of the fashion house, carried by all fashion addicts and adopted in its many colours by celebs all over the world, also on the red carpet. Last year, the It-bag was relaunched in a new more structured version with less evident stud details. Thus was born the Neo-Classic bag, carried by Chiara Ferragni and beloved by fashion victims just as much as the previous version.
