LOGOMANIA: SLIDING BACK INTO STYLE

This season, brands are asserting their heritage by going into their archives and relaunching or updating their best logos; or they are creating new symbols which reflect today’s digitally enhanced universe.

I remember one of my most epic ‘logofied’ moments was back in the late 90s when I paired a Burberry rain hat with a Louis Vuitton monogram ‘Speedy’ bag. I can’t begin to tell you how much I was feeling myself and my status symbol vibe. I looked ‘expensive’ as my collaborator Lynn likes to say. That very high end look had as much energy then, as it does today, especially when I think about the recent appointment of new creative directors at both houses- Ghanaian-American Virgil Abloh at Vuitton men and Italian Riccardo Tisci at Burberry. Both designers appointed to bring those brands into the future and keep house logos and branding relevant in the eyes and fashion hearts of loyal clients.

Speaking of loyal clients, there is definitely the allure of belonging to your favorite fashion tribe when it comes to logo dressing. Which brands do you relate to the most? Which ‘logoed’ icons did your parents turn to when you were a child? Are you inspired by a specific brand ambassador whose style you strive to emulate? Are you like me and are able to simultaneously appreciate style codes from multiple brands? The fabulous thing for Spring 2018 is that many of your favorite brands have a seriously wide variety of logo pieces for you to adore, and the signage doesn’t stop in the accessories or t-shirt department as brands have splashed logos across the season’s most gorgeous apparel as well.

So it’s logo party time: embrace the trend with cute jumpers; sporty, but sleek skirts; big statement jewelry; and wear your favorite label boldly on your sleeve.
