All-Leather Style | Discovering BAIA with Camilla Rizzolo

The deep bond with the sea, with a small, narrow and unknown tongue of the Sardinia island and the painful loss of a loved one, pushed the Italian stylist Camilla Rizzolo to achieve that project closed in the drawer of dreams for too long... here is the past, present and future of Baia, told by its founder in an intimate and exclusive interview.

What are your goals for your brand?
We are very attached to Made in Italy, the quality of the raw material and the precision of the packaging. The goal is to expand our world and product worldwide, where the Italian workforce is in great demand and appreciated. There will be a constant evolution visible from the next season both in terms of product and materials, but our aesthetic will always be very defined and recognizable.

Which leather garment do you prefer?
Double-breasted blazers and coats are what I love most for their shape and fit; they are a key product and carry over of the brand. We will definitely maintain the structure, we will expand the development of materials and details of each item of the three collections.

The leather mania

Total leather look, yes or no?
Absolutely yes. There are some 'rules' that have never been dictated by anyone, like black and brown never together, as for the total denim only if the same color and in this case also for the skin you have always tried not to wear a total look. The trick is to moderate and balance the proportions and the heaviness. The all-leather style is BAIA's hallmark.

Tips for the treatment and maintenance of leather items.
The leather is a very delicate material and for its maintenance it’s very important to pay attention to washing and ironing. All our garments have been made entirely by hand with 100% genuine leather and washable. The material must be washed according to the following indications: washable with dry water 30° and neutral detergent. Do not tumble dry and lay it away from the light and heat of the sun. Iron with a silk cloth placed between the garment and the iron or go to a professional laundry.

A mannish style look can be very feminine, if under a thick black leather trousers with laces and small straps you put a low heel pointed shoe or a silk satin top with a blazer over, simply a gold hoop earring and a lipstick thread.

Austere refinement

Textured effect trompe l'oeil. Which shade of the leather is more trendy for the SS23?
I am an unconditional lover of the trompe l'oeil effect, we used it all last winter season and will continue to propose it. Not only on leather but also on denim and silk. I love this effect on the shades of brown and sand, statement colors of BAIA.

The perfect mix & match: how to match the leather?
I always recommend combining leather with something that contrasts it for example a transparent silk shirt or a large oversized cashmere coat, I think it’s a super chic joker! It goes from the sporty look to the super elegant, from the basic office to the casual white t-shirt or tank top that I really love.

Leather trench coat, a timeless garment. How to wear it?
The leather trench is an elegant, sober garment, suitable for the melancholic days of autumn or the sparkling spring breezes, the trench is a must have unisex in every season, a garment with timeless charm, that has crossed historical eras without ever losing its appeal and still is revisited in its cuts and materials but always maintaining its classic shape. The leather trench can be worn with everything creating an ever-changing look. Closed like a dress, open with a total grey suit and a white sock, open with a black sheer stocking and a mini dress, or office with a baggy jeans and a white silk shirt.

As a brand born just over a year ago, we are trying to expand and experiment every season with new materials or innovative techniques on fabrics already used, while maintaining high the quality of raw materials.
