2020 summer fashion: jackets and shirts with puffed sleeves

Bold volumes and romantic curves: puffed sleeves appear on jackets and shirts for spring summer 2020

You just have to look at the fashion shows of Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu and Cecile Bahnsen to understand that puffed sleeves are back in fashion for 2020. They peek out from tailored jackets and shirts with large collars. And if the blazer does not have that recognizable volume, then fashionistas are ingenious: just roll up the sleeves of the garment to create beautiful puffs.

Big, bigger…they capture our attention

The Parisians have adopted this look for the new power dressing: sensual sleeves, made with very light and transparent fabrics, such as silk chiffon, devoré and lace. But not only that: the most romantic side is represented thanks to ruches sewn in strategic stitches, baby collars and cuffs up to half the arm. Fashion wants exaggerated, indispensable, and even fun sleeves. The reference is to the 80s, where the bold adjective here is taken literally and translated into large armholes and voluminous fabrics: the mood is festive, and the result deliberately 'too much'. The visual inspiration? Joan Collins in Dynasty.

For the final outcome, the outfit is balanced: the balloon sleeves is contrasted with strict midi skirts, high-waisted jeans and shaped bodices. The summer variants are more sophisticated, where the swellings of the fabric fall from the shoulders, showing their full and delicate roundness. This time the inspiration is nineteenth-century, worthy of a Victorian painting.

Puffed sleeves are perfect for those who want to achieve a feminine look: a romantic detail, to experience a modern fairy tale
