The Champion men's clothing line, as we now know it, was born in 1934 and was produced by the Knickerbocker Knitting Mills company founded in 1919 by the Feinbloom family in Rochester/New York. To remedy the problem of shrinkage due to frequent washing Champion patented in 1952, as a key innovation, the first sweatshirt with the fabric weave positioned vertically, and in 1956 the iconic "C" appeared, always present on the left side of each garment. Between the 1960s and 1970s, the brand consolidated its position as a leader in sports uniforms, while in the following two decades Champion was chosen with increasing frequency by artists related especially to musical genres such as hip hop and punk.
