The power of the monochromatic look: 3 elegant fashion ideas perfect for Winter 2024

The power of the monochromatic look: 3 elegant fashion ideas perfect for Winter 2024

Yes, the monochromatic look is proof that black isn’t the only way to be elegant. Its power lies in the trending shades of Winter 2024 2025

We’re used to layering and experimenting with all kinds of patterns, but the true comfort zone of our wardrobe always (and only) revolves around the classic total black look. Too bad that for Fall Winter 2024 2025, black is no longer trending, despite being the most worn non-color in daily life. Instead, it makes way for bolder hues that have taken center stage on this season's international runways. This marks the definitive rise of the contemporary monochromatic look.

The first signal appeared three years ago with Milan’s take on the camel outfit for winter: beyond the coat, the ensemble was rounded out with pants, sweaters, shoes, and bags, all in matching tones. That moment made us reflect on our wardrobes and how we personally approach color. No matter how drawn we are to red or violet, we inevitably resort to black, for convenience or laziness.

But now, designers are showing us how to embrace color with sophisticated and surprising results, anything but ordinary. The key is colorful monochromatic looks. With black left behind, numerous options emerge, but the hottest trends focus on these three shades: fiery red, butter yellow, and marble white.

Let’s start with fiery red: the Fall Winter 2024 2025 runways only confirmed this trend of wearing red, not just for the holiday season. The goal is to create a seductive yet understated image. For example, the red dress features long sleeves and a turtleneck, while the voluminous skirt has a slit that reveals itself only with confident strides. On the romantic side, Valentino shines with a midi dress featuring a full skirt and a fabulous cape.

Butter yellow stands out as the most intriguing hue, symbolizing dynamic yet sophisticated femininity. Used like a neutral shade, it carries more character thanks to its vibrant yet soft tone reminiscent of spreadable butter. It pairs beautifully with brown and burgundy hues, but as a monochromatic total look, it is utterly striking.

Lastly, marble white, a very pale shade with a hint of gray, gives outfits a matte and elegant vibe, especially in evening dress form, paired with sculptural jewelry. The fashion idea? Alaïa.
