That luxury version of a minimal style represented by the New York upper class

That luxury version of a minimal style represented by the New York upper class

Guide to the minimal style born in America that now has become a symbol of the high society in New York City.

There are those who have made minimal style a mantra for decades and those who have rediscovered it now. And the moment is not casual. There are in fact several factors that have led to this fashion trend which literally broke out in 2023: the post-pandemic required new creativity on the catwalks balanced by a practical need to feel good about yourself, wearing 'something' that made us look elegant but feel comfortable. Then there is the fashion system that still looks with a lot of nostalgia to Céline (the one with the accent) that deeply marked the wardrobe of millennials: a clean proposal that the former Creative Director of Celine, Phoebe Philo, has seasoned with cultural and artistic references. Once gone, he left a huge void, so much so that he created a community called 'Old Céline'.

But something new has happened, because on February 9 his return was published on the official profile with a new brand: a collection with high expectations, since many hope to fill that lack of creativity. Her minimal style cannot be compared to the one proposed in the early 90’s, because it is full of concepts borrowed from the world of art and the feminist cultural movement, therefore close to the American upper class of today. Strong and powerful women. Women aware of their femininity. Women who don’t dress just with the aim to get the approval of others.

Waiting to find out what will happen in September 2023 (when the brand will be presented), many have already started to propose a clean and conceptual fashion, closer and closer to the minimalist philosophy that so much pleases American high society. So let’s wear comfortable sandals, wide pants, classic coats and knitwear, all declined in a neutral palette with some color tips.

It also happens in men’s fashion with the return of the tailoring suit which does not follow the strict codes of haute couture but is studied in a more fluid and over shape: if the cut is flawless, it is definitely the XXL size and the relaxed shape to win on the catwalks. As in the women’s wardrobe, the lighter neutral palettes wins, such as pearl grey, beige and nude, while the accessories belong to the sporty appeal (sneakers and backpacks) but proposed in the deluxe version.

A kind of fashion so much loved in everyday life and that should not ask for praise to anyone, for confident looks that do not require bold logos in view but quality of the cut and material used, all in a luxury version. It’s time to dress like this and find a new essence starting from the same essentials. This is the American trick to be so refined without giving in to the frills, that’s the necessary luxury.
