Fashion Week September 2020: what has changed?

Fashion Week September 2020: what has changed?

Timing, format and different channels. Here you are how thernFashion Weeks have changed starting from September 2020.

From New York to London, from Milan to Paris, all the fashion weeks will change significantly from now on. You can consider this switch as a one of the many consequences of the Covid-19 on the fashion industry: the virus has speeded up the digital viewing of the fashion shows, which is why there are some designers who will present their collections “behind closed doors” but still streaming the full show via social media or television.

Let’s take a look at the official calendar, at the live streams and at the postponed fashion shows.  Fashion week finally goes phygital!

New York Fashion Week

This is actually the shortest fashion week of all: the Council of Fashion Designers of America has announced a three days program, from September 14th to September 16th. All the shows will be totally digital and without pubblic, which means quick runways and easy fruition.

London Fashion Week

As many of you know, the London Fashion Week is one of the most experimental and creative by far, the place where the digital edition of fashion week has already established. From September 17th to September 22th the digital shows will be available on londonfashionweek.co.uk. while some designers such as Amanda Wakeley, Roksanda, Sharon Wauchob, Simone Rocha, University of Westminster Menswear will present their collections in front of a phisical crowd.

MilanornFashion Week

Camera Moda announced that the MFW will take place 'phygital' with 28 physical shows and 28 digital events. The schedule, from September 22th to September 28th, will also include Dolce&Gabbana show, missing for a long time.

The digital fashion show is confirmed for Missoni and Prada (can't wait to see the first co-directed collection between Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons), while Alberta Ferretti, Etro, Fendi, Max Mara, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo e Versace will show their collections in front of an audience.

Among the big news, we must mention Valentino, unusually coming back to Milan with a co-ed show. 'Paris is the place where we usually show our collections and that represents the DNA of the maison. The situation we are experiencing forced us to make an unexpected decision' said the creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli “Milan is a huge opportunity to work with my team on a wide project about the concept of identity'.

Giorgio Armani, who since May 2020 had the intention to revise its SS21 schedule, revealed that Emporio Armani show will be full digital and available on CNDM platform, while the main collections of Giorgio Armani will be streamed entirely on television for the very first time (September 26th).

But that's not all. The official agenda also includes some special events, such as Laura Biagiotti show at the Capitol in Rome, presenting the first collection of the maison designed by her dauther Lavinia, or Trussardi Archive+Now collection, created in collaboration with Fiona Sinha and Aleksandar Stanic.

Paris Fashion Week

Paris has already tested the digital fashion week on July 20th with the Haute Couture fashion shows. The Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode announced that the SS21 schedule - from September 28th to Octpber 2nd - will include both digital and physical events. The detailed agenda is not yet available but it will be released on the official website soon.
