Capsule wardrobe: what it is and how to create it
The solution to your problems is the capsule wardrobe: here's what it is and how to create (or modify) it each season.
How many times have you opened your wardrobe and thought, 'I have nothing to wear' even though there's no more space among the hangers, boxes, and drawers?! A common issue for many of us, which doesn't help in our daily lives because it requires a lot of energy to create satisfying outfits, whether they make us feel good or align with the latest fashion trends. To address these situations, the capsule wardrobe emerges, consisting of only a few pieces that you can wear all year round.
This will allow you to reduce the time needed to get ready, as well as save money and space in favor of a more sustainable shopping experience. However, the idea isn't to stop buying altogether but to buy better, to create a lasting wardrobe that is literally free from temporary trends. This applies to the 5 essential items, all chosen in a neutral color palette. Here's an example: a white t-shirt, blue jeans (the model that makes you feel the best), a black dress, a navy blue blazer, and a gray sweater or hoodie. Obviously, this isn't enough to face all seasons, which is why the capsule wardrobe should be enriched over the months to tackle every moment of the year with style (and without worries):
Winter capsule wardrobe
In this season, the cold is imminent, and the investment involves a soft, long down jacket at least to the hips, a pair of tall suede boots, and a cashmere turtleneck. If you're looking for a bag, it's time to opt for a logo-free shopping bag.
Spring capsule wardrobe
With the emergence of the new, mild season, it's time to buy a pair of tailored, wide-legged pants with pleats, an oversized shirt (but not too much), and a pair of white sneakers or, if you already have them, a pair of nude-colored platform-free pumps.
Summer capsule wardrobe
The keyword is freshness and comfort: give way to a mini white dress, a pair of ultra-flat leather sandals, and a straw bag to wear with almost anything. Tank tops and linen shorts should never be missing.
Fall capsule wardrobe
Upon returning from vacation, it's time for shopping: choose a pleated or refined plissé skirt, leather loafers, and a crew-neck sweater (black, blue, or gray) to wear with almost everything. And lots of cotton socks.
