The men's ceremony outfit in 4 tips to get it right

A simple and smart guide to discover how to create the perfect men's ceremony outfit

Is there still a season for ceremonies? Not anymore: even though Spring is always a recommended time, more and more moments are scheduled during the Summer and Autumn seasons. Obviously, the question is always the same, as the doubts about combinations and colors do: what is the best men's ceremony outfit? The ideas are increasingly many since it's no longer the occasion that rules, but the chosen dress code. We have answered the question, so as not to have any doubts anymore.

Relaxed or hyper-formal suit?

Although everyone can express their personality through clothing, age is a discriminating factor: the younger you are, the more you can dare with a relaxed suit. A bit loose and worn with a T-shirt and sneakers, it's ideal to aim for a dark blue or classic black. Conversely, if you are an adult, you must necessarily follow the 'rigor', unless the dress code allows for an informal note (for example, all events set in a garden or in the midst of nature, allow you to avoid hyper-classic aesthetics). The suit is perfectly coordinated and worn only with a shirt.

Separated or coordinated suit?

If you are invited to a family ceremony, such as a confirmation or a baptism, you can opt for a separated suit, where the jacket differs from the trousers. In the case of a traditional wedding, however, coordination is fundamental. We recommend investing in the classic tailored suit, dark blue (the most contemporary variant is royal blue), or London smoke gray. Black is discouraged because it is associated with mourning, while pinstripes are allowed but only in the most discreet version. The choice of fabric is very important: a cool wool is the best option because it adapts to more seasons, while linen is only suitable for summer.

The shirt

Even though wide fits are coming back in fashion, the slim-fit shirt is always the most suitable choice because it avoids unexpected volumes under the jacket. The collar should never be button-down, as it is considered casual, while cufflinks are not essential even though they are a stylish detail.

The accessories

Tie or bow tie? Beyond the black tie dress code, which requires the use of a bow tie, in reality, if not specified, you can choose the accessory you prefer to complete the men's ceremony outfit. A styling tip to keep in mind is that the tie looks good on taller individuals, while bow ties suit all body types. Lace-up shoes should match the belt. Loafers? Only for daytime and more informal ceremonies.
