Red carpet at the Oscars 2024: 5 unexpected fashion trends to try

Red carpet at the Oscars 2024: 5 unexpected fashion trends to try

Couture dresses, suspended shoulder straps, and brooches. Here are the best looks seen on the Oscars 2024 red carpet and the most talked-about fashion trends.

As it happens every year, celebrities saved their best red carpet looks for the Oscars 2024. The result was dazzling, in the literal sense, as besides the precious jewelry, many shining elements were seen on the red carpet of the Dolby Theatre, the venue for the Academy Awards. There is a homage to the history of fashion with vintage dresses rediscovered by stylists for the occasion, but the red carpet is also the moment to discover the most interesting fashion trends. And these are the strongest and unexpected trends you can wear:

1 Structured sophistication

What particularly caught our attention were the well-structured and sculpted silhouettes. Sandra Huller stunned with a Schiaparelli dress described as 'wearable art,' while Emma Stone brought back the double skirt, an extremely long mermaid style with a short flared hem, subtly referencing her character (Bella) in the film 'Povere Creature!' that earned her a win as Best Leading Actress.

2 Suspended shoulder straps

Emily Blunt and Florence Pugh, both present for 'Oppenheimer' (a film by Christopher Nolan produced with his wife Emma Thomas, which took home 7 awards, including the prestigious Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor), opted for a 'made of light' dress characterized by rigid yet suspended shoulder straps, creating an interesting and unusual effect for the Oscars 2024 red carpet look.

3 Brooch for men

A trend launched by Dolce & Gabbana last January with the Fall-Winter 2024-2025 runway show is now reflected in reality through a series of very elegant male outfits choosing a brooch to adorn the lapels of their smoking jackets. Cillian Murphy, somewhat reluctant to red carpet flashes, still stood out for his class in wearing a smoking (customized by Atelier Versace) with a pleated band, while a pinned golden crown shone. A true contemporary cinema star.

4 Hourglass silhouette

We were particularly struck by the choice of mermaid dresses that highlighted the feminine silhouette, reminiscent of an hourglass. Margot Robbie, Zendaya, and Anya Taylor-Joy seduced photographers with graceful dresses that emphasized the wasp waist, while the skirt opened softly thanks to drapes or basket-like structures.

5 The end of barbiecore

Not only did Pierpaolo Piccioli, after his very Barbiecore fuchsia runway show, bring attention back to black during fashion week, but also the actors in Greta Gerwig's film strangely opted for black instead of pink. Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, respectively in the roles of Ken and Barbie, wore all-black with some shining accents. We can say that the era of Barbiecore is definitively over.
